Learning styles are simply different approaches or ways of learning. Psychologists, academicians and other theoreticians have developed a number of ideas and theories about the way people learn. Educationalists have used these theories to develop pedagogies, which are aimed at allowing children to be more effective and efficient learners. To make these strategies effective they must be simple, easy to implement in a wide variety of contexts, with children of different ages, across a variety of different subject areas and within different learning environments.
We all learn differently. It's self-evident when we look at babies and toddlers: some are eager to explore the world, while others prefer to sit and observe. Some learn to crawl before they are six months old, while others take longer. We need to take our children's styles and learning preferences into account. As home educators, it is most effective when we are aware of the way our children learn best.
